Follow-Me, leader in performer tracking technology, has announced the successful deployment of its Follow-Me 3D TWO system on Swedish singer-songwriter Miss Li’s energetic summer festival tour. The production marked the first time a summer festival tour utilised the system in Sweden, showcasing the platform’s flexibility in challenging outdoor lighting conditions.
Linda Therese Karlsson, known professionally as Miss Li, has released eight studio albums since beginning her career in the early 2000s, with her songs featured in Swedish commercials and numerous American television series. Her high-energy performances and timecoded shows present unique challenges for lighting teams, particularly during Swedish summer festivals where daylight is a constant.
STHLM Stage & Music, a Swedish event technology supplier led by Founder and CEO Tobias Jonasson, delivered the system and staffing for the tour, with Robert Hvenström serving as Lighting Designer. Jonasson was also Production Manager/FOH for the tour, while other members of the production team included Edvin Boo (Operator), Douglas Sandberg (Follow-Me Operator), and Daniel Dacke Magnusson (Systems Tech).
“When touring in Sweden during summer, it doesn’t get dark during the show, so the biggest challenge for us was to make a big impact without using an LED wall,” explains Magnusson.
Miss Li’s performance style added another layer of complexity. The artist’s tendency to leave the stage and jump into the pit to interact with fans at the barriers created a persistent lighting problem that traditional solutions couldn’t address. “Miss Li is an artist full of energy and she wants that to be reflected throughout the show,” Magnusson says. “It’s a heavily timecoded show with a lot of lighting cues and hits.”
The decision to deploy Follow-Me 3D TWO came after the STHLM Stage & Music team witnessed the system on another Swedish arena tour. “Picking Follow-Me was an easy choice when we realised that you can use any fixture as a follow-spot,” notes Magnusson. “We saw how easy and fast the workflow was and knew that Follow-Me was the right choice.”
The technical setup utilised two fixtures for keylighting, mounted in the FOH tower or a lift behind it, while the team also employed an innovative workflow integration. “We used the Follow-Me system as a pan tilt controller and sent that data into the lighting desk, where the operator merged it together with all the other data such as colour or dimmer,” Magnusson explains. “This meant that we didn’t need to rely on the Follow-Me operator to do this, but instead had everything programmed into the timecoded show.”
This integration proved particularly valuable for Miss Li’s spontaneous stage movements. “Ever since I started working for her, Miss Li has had the habit of leaving the stage and jumping into the pit down to the barriers. We’ve always had the problem that there was no option to get lights down there, which meant that she went pitch black. Follow-Me helped us solve this problem,” Magnusson says.
The system’s flexibility delivered other benefits for the production team. “I really love that you can merge the data as you want with the console, making the show come together much more easily and faster,” says Magnusson. “The feature to jump between Follow-Me Control or lighting desk control helped us a lot with the workflow.”
Lighting Designer Robert Hvenström also praised the system’s performance: “We used one system that controlled two follow-spot fixtures. Everything worked perfectly and it lifted the show to an extra level.”
Linnea Ljungmark from Topstage AB, Follow-Me’s Swedish sales and distribution partner, emphasises the significance of the deployment. “It’s fantastic to see the Follow-Me 3D TWO system used on a summer festival tour for the first time in Sweden,” she concludes. “This really proves how flexible the system is. A Follow-Me setup can be quite complex, as we saw at Eurovision in Malmö 2024, or it can be small and easy to work with.”
